Synopsis

In this book, the third one in the Spanish Trails series, Phil Lawler and Tim Price present a range of walks in the mountain ranges to the north of Madrid. It will be surprising to many people to find mountains rising to over 2,400 metres (almost 8,000 feet) within one hour¿s drive of Spain¿s capital city. The mountains can in fact be clearly seen from the northern part of Madrid¿s city centre. The book contains a selection of easy, moderate and difficult walks in an approximately geographical sequence from the north-west of the city to the north-east. Details are included about how to access the walks, normally by car. Information is also provided about public transport (trains and buses) in the area. The walk descriptions are supplemented by sketch maps, which are intended to be used in conjunction with topographical maps, for which recommendations are given in the book. Other titles in the Spanish Trails series include the Picos de Europa in the north of Spain (ISBN 978-0-9955797-0-5) and the Sierra Almijara and Tejeda (near Competa and Nerja) in the south (978-0-9955791-1-2).
